I'm in love with this place.

We first visited it about 4 years ago on a quick trip to Boca Grande. It was nearing the end of the afternoon and we had been to visit the lighthouse, and admire the view at the south tip of the island. After a pleasant couple of hours relaxing, we walked a little way up the beach and stumbled across South Beach Bar and Grille.

It was around 4pm, and the late lunch diners had all but left and we were drawn in by the adirondack chairs that were dotted about. A cold drink turned into a delicious three hours spent enjoying the food, and the amazing scenery.

Fast forward to this year and after being couped up during lockdown we decided to venture out, and picked Boca Grande for a long weekend. I won't lie, that restaurant played a big part in that decision.

On our second night in Boca Grande we cycled down the cycle path to try out the restaurant again. Of course, all the way down I was hoping that it would live up to our first time there, and it didn't disappoint.

Boca Grande is generally quiet towards the end of August, and in September to October many restuarants close down, and coupled with the fact we had gone early (around 4:30pm) and that many people are not travelling due to Covid, we found ourselves sitting at a table outside on our own overlooking the ocean. It was perfect!

So, I hear you ask, the view was great, what was the food like?

Well, I've found that quite often places that have a wonderful location seem to serve sub-par food. It's almost as if they feel they don't need to make an effort because people come for the view, but at this restaurant the food was great. It's the whole package.

I had a delicious coucous salad with shrimp, and my husband had the house smoked pork butt pulled from the bone, topped with onion straws, smoked gouda and a drizzle of BBQ sauce on an toasted bun

Just thinking about it makes me drool. It was yummy!

The wine was good, it was nice and clean, and they were doing a great job, inside and out, of adhering to social distancing and mask rules

If you are ever in Boca Grande you HAVE to check it out!

Lunch is served from 11:30 to 4:00. Dinner is served from 4:00 to 9:00.
